Para la Naturaleza (PLN)
Founded in 2013, Para la Naturaleza is a not-for-profit unit of the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico. Among its duties are to drive actions in support of the conservation of natural and patrimonial resources and to integrate society at large in the conservation of natural ecosystems to increase protected lands in Puerto Rico. Para la Naturaleza oversees educational activities, the organization of volunteers, and the fundraising for the Conservation Trust. It seeks to facilitate transformational experiences that inspire and motivate individuals and communities to get involved in concrete actions for safeguarding natural and patrimonial resources. In addition, it manages protected natural areas and patrimonial resources such as the Hacienda Buena Vista in Ponce, the Hacienda La Esperanza in Manatí, Las Cabezas de San Juan in Fajardo, the Ramón Power y Giralt House in Old San Juan, and the Río Piedras Aqueduct. As part of its work, Para la Naturaleza has created an archive of visual materials and records associated to each of these properties to learn about the development of these sites and the regions where they are located.
Para la Naturaleza acknowledges that heritage conservation is a way to promote environmental conservation and to apply the notion of sustainability in an active fashion. Besides its historic and cultural value, patrimonial assets showcase multiple solutions about revitalization, adaptability, and local and situated designs which we could apply today. In addition, projects addressing historic buildings could foster economic development agendas for their local areas.
Para la Naturaleza’s main administrative location is at the Ramón Power y Giralt House, #155 Tetuan St., Old San Juan.
