The Luis Muñoz Marín Foundation (LMMF) was created in 1980 as an educational and cultural not-for-profit organization. Its mission is to assist in building the future of Puerto Rico by the preservation, the actualization, and provision of an outreach platform for the values, philosophy, and ways of thinking of Luis Muñoz Marín as well as their application in the identification and solution of the main problems affecting the country. In general, the LMMF promotes the study of contemporary Puerto Rican history, the discussion of topics of public interest, the conservation of the environment and natural resources in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, and any cultural manifestation driven by the fine arts. From its opening to the public, the Foundation has emphasized on educating its visitors and has welcomed researchers to its archive and botanical research center.

To date, close to two million records constitute the Historic Archive of the Luis Muñoz Marín Foundation. The collections hold diverse materials dating from the period of Muñoz Marín as first elected governor of Puerto Rico as well as those which framed his life, from his birth in 1898 until his death in 1980. The Archive takes care, in addition, of First Lady Inés María Mendoza’s collection, as well as the papers of other persons who, during the second half of the XX Century, helped drive what is known as the modernization of Puerto Rico.

For the most part, the resources included in the PRAHA are curated to focus on aspects related to architecture and spaces, both rural and urban.

The Luis Muñoz Marín Foundation is located at the site of the former residence of Luis Muñoz Marín and Inés María Mendoza on State Road #877, Km. 0.4 in the off-road of the Río Piedras to Trujillo Alto Expressway
